The Department of Pathology recently celebrated the successful launch of the Pathogen Cryo-Imaging Facility (PaCIFiC), drawing over 40 attendees from across the University. Researchers from Biochemistry, Genetics, and Pharmacology joined to explore the facility’s state-of-the-art capabilities in cryo-confocal imaging, cryo-CLEM, and GP2 plunge freezing.
This launch marks the beginning of a new chapter in high-resolution imaging of pathogens and cellular ultrastructure under cryogenic conditions.
During the event, attendees had the opportunity to engage firsthand with cutting-edge technologies and participate in discussions on collaborative opportunities and potential research applications.
As part of the launch, the Department also announced a pilot pump-priming competition. This initiative offers Pathology graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers the opportunity to access PaCIFiC’s technologies for exploratory imaging projects. Aimed at stimulating innovative applications of cryo-imaging, the scheme supports early-stage research ideas and is currently open to researchers from the Department of Pathology.
Plans are underway to expand access to the broader School of Biological Sciences community, encouraging wider engagement with cryo-correlative imaging tools.
