A student visitor is defined as a student who is registered for a degree at another institution and who attends the Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge for a short period of study, supervised research, or a placement as part of their course. Students may be internal to the University or external. Students who are wishing to conduct an internship are not classed as visiting students. Visiting Students need to be invited by a member of the Department’s academic staff.
The following conditions apply to visiting students. By entering the UK as a visitor, they agree that they:

will not take any employment in the UK, including any internship or work experience (paid/unpaid) as part of studies;

will not work on a self-employed basis in the UK or be involved in business activities;

will not draw on any public funds;

will not extend their stay in the UK;

can demonstrate support and funds available to pay for any course costs, accommodation and flights home; and
-
do not wish to switch to another category (e.g. student visa).
Visiting Students are expected to meet the University's standard English language requirements. Please see here for further information. If the visit is less than six months, we do not need evidence of English language proficiency, but expect that the PI should confirm that the level of English is acceptable.
Visiting students to the Department will not be affiliated with a college, will not receive accommodation, and will not have undergraduate-style supervisions.
Students from outside of the UK and Ireland may require a visa and it is the responsibility of the visitor to ensure that they have the correct immigration permission for an approved visiting period. please refer to the following webpage for information University of Cambridge International Students Office. Students visiting under six months may not require a visa but it is advised that they check: Check if you need a UK visa - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

Please also note that an ATAS clearance may be required. In these cases, it is imperative that you apply to the Teaching Office well in advance of the visit, as this process can take some time to be approved. Please see here for more information about the ATAS process.
The Teaching Office is happy to issue formal letters to assist with Border Control and applying for visas (where needed) following approval of the visit and a visitor agreement letter being signed by both the Department of Pathology and the students’ home University.
