June, 2025 - PaCIFiC Pump Priming Competition for Dept of Pathology

We are delighted to announce the launch of the PaCIFiC Pump Priming Competition at the Department of Pathology. This initiative aims to provide small-scale funding to support innovative, early-stage research projects to benefit from advanced imaging capabilities and have the potential to develop into larger, externally funded projects.

Funding of up to £2k per award will cover facility access fees, sample preparation costs, and limited consumables necessary for the imaging process. Awards are strictly to be spent on PaCIFiC’s equipment and consumables. Completed applications must be submitted online via the online form by the end of working hours on Friday, 25th of July, 2025.

Please feel free to contact the PaCIFiC Manager, Dr. Luay Joudeh (lj360@cam.ac.uk), for any further details or questions.

May, 2025 - PaCIFiC Facility launch marks a milestone in Cryo-Imaging at Cambridge

The Department of Pathology recently celebrated the successful launch of the Pathogen Cryo-Imaging Facility (PaCIFiC), drawing over 40 attendees from across the University. Researchers from Biochemistry, Genetics, and Pharmacology joined to explore the facility’s state-of-the-art capabilities in cryo-confocal imaging, cryo-CLEM, and GP2 plunge freezing.

April, 2025 - Invite to PaCIFiC Launch Event

We are delighted to invite you to a lunchtime launch event to hear about our recently launched cryo-imaging facility PaCIFiC. PaCIFiC is based in the Department of Pathology and enables the cryo-cooling and cryo-fluorescence imaging of cells and tissues, including pathogen-infected samples, facilitating downstream high-resolution cryo-imaging (soft X-ray or electron microscopy). This event is open to all researchers within the University interested in hearing about how PaCIFiC might unlock new avenues for their research. Lunch will be provided.

Program Agenda:

12:00     Welcome Lunch

13:00     Introduction to PaCIFiC - Dr. Luay Joudeh

13:20     ”Seeing infection through a new lens” within SBS - Prof. Graham

13:25     Investigating virus assembly and remodelling of infected cells using correlative cryo-fluorescence and cryo-X-ray microscopy - Prof. Crump

13:45     Cryo-electron microscopy and tomography – Dr. Dima Chirgadze

Please register your attendance before Sunday, 11 May here.
