Join our research community as a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor researching host-pathogen biology to identify the important universal and fundamental principles underpinning cellular responses to infection.
We envisage this role to take an approach that centres on the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, which is essential for understanding infectious diseases across kingdoms, and developing effective strategies to prevent transmission and devise treatments.
We aim to support all our scientists at all stages in their career development and to help our established academic staff remain active in research and strive towards a positive and inclusive research culture.
This post holder will:
- directly support the delivery of fundamental, interdisciplinary research;
- span host-pathogen biology across multiple species (e.g., human/animals/plants);
- create a focal point for integrated host:pathogen research across kingdoms;
- undertake cross-departmental research and teaching within the multiple Research Themes in SBS.
The global impact of pandemics, often exacerbated by climate change, has brought into sharp relief the need for resilience and robustness in our capacity to respond to existing and emerging pathogens. We are keen to further One Health--One Biology in our MedST, VetST & NST Biology of Disease courses in Part IB and Part II. We expect the appointee would drive the development and delivery of this teaching and contribute to the teaching, examining and administration across a range of Part IB courses and Part II courses. In addition, the appointee could contribute to new Masters options in Biomolecular Science, Cell Science, Crop Science, and Infection Biology and Molecular Immunology as part of the School's MPhil programme. This person may also strengthen links to Departments and Institutes in the SCM, e.g., Medicine and CITIID.
We welcome applicants with a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant subject who can lead an exciting, innovative and fundable research programme. The applicant would typically have post-doctoral experience and may have already been established or leading a research group Applicants will also have a talent and enthusiasm for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with an eagerness to contribute to education at all levels.
