The role of placental macrophages in fetal anti-viral defense.

mcgovern1Macrophages are mononuclear phagocytes that play a central role in tissue development and homeostasis, and protecting the organism from infection. Our laboratory is interested in describing the properties of tissue-resident human macrophages and how their properties change throughout life, using modern technologies such as advanced flow cytometry and single cell RNA sequencing. This project aims to describe the properties of placental macrophages and the role they play in anti-viral fetal defense.
