Postgraduate Studentships
| We expect to take a PhD student most years, starting in October (although it is possible in principle to start at other times). We do not take MPhil students unless they are going to proceed to a PhD.
Current PhD projects would be to discover chromosome translocations in breast cancer, either hunting for new chromsome translocations in breast cancer; or working on one of the translocations we have recently discovered. Work on the translocations already discovered would be to characterise the changes to gene structure; identify fusion transcripts and effects on expression level; find out how frequently the target gene is rearranged in breast cancers; and perhaps proceed to study the biological effect of the fusion gene. For details of projects see the linked pages (which may not be entirely up to date) and contact me by email pawe 1@cam.ac.uk (delete the space after pawe) There may be a funded studentship for UK or EU nationals beginning October 2010 (2009 is already filled) or subsequent years, either funded by a charity such as Breast Cancer Campaign or Cancer Research UK, or a UK Research Councilthese studentships are likely to be advertised between October and December of the preceding year; non-EU applicants would have to obtain their own funding. For general info about postgraduate studentship opportunities in this and related labs see the Cambridge University, Department of Pathology web pages and follow links to postgraduate students pages, or visit the Cambridge Cancer Graduate Programme website.
