To give you a feel for the club here is a collection, by no means exhaustive, of members of the 4Cs in action.
The "4Cs" is a Cambridge City based club for those interested in the
activities of climbing and caving. New members are always very welcome. We
cater for those at all levels from beginner up (including those interested
in Hill-Walking and Mountaineering). We try to initiate new members gently,
hoping that their first few climbs turn out to be very enjoyable, and shown
here is Dave having just enjoyed (?) a wonderful cliff climb.
We have a number of long standing members of the club including our "President", Steve Kirk who used to regularly enjoy both caving and climbing. However these days he is more often to be found at the social events.
Other "experienced" members of the club such as Ken Prandy are
still very active and are always willing to offer friendly advice and to
help out on equipment matters with new members, and they don't have to be,
as featured here, young French and female!
Another of our seasoned climbers, Andy, seen here with Steve, is prepared to brave all weathers for his climbing, and always sports the latest fashions in equipment.
We hold regular
"Club Meets"
throughout the year and many members of the club organize additional weekend or day trips in between. The
official weekend trips
are organized at approximately monthly intervals and in summer these usually
involve camping but in winter we often also book climbing and caving huts.
Here are two views of our camp site outside the Kings House Hotel, Ranoch
Moor, in February 1994
and February 1995
Travelling arrangements for the trips is usually by arranging car sharing at
one of the
"Pub Meets"
preceding the trip. Not all of the cars are as cramped as this one though!
Quite a few of our club trips include sea cliff climbing at places such as
Sennen in Cornwall and Pembroke in Wales. Seen here is our Caving
Secretary, Gordon Scott enjoying himself on Ochre Slab at Bosigran.
On another trip we see our Club Secretary, Dave Bowen, appearing to be enjoying climbing at Pembroke
One of the hazards of sea cliff climbing is of course the sea as can be seen from this picture taken at Sennen Cove. The year this picture was taken many members of the club opted for a "caving alternative" by visiting the local Tin Mines
