This document provides details of the examination procedure for Part II Pathology students reading;

NST Part II Pathology (“Single Subject”)
The examination will consist of:
- Four theory papers (65% of total mark)
Each paper will consist of four sections, one drawn from each option.
In two of the papers, two 90 minute answers will be required, one answer from each of the two sections corresponding to your chosen options. There will be a choice of three questions in each option. In the other two papers four 45 minute answers will be required, two from each of the two chosen options. Here, a choice of four questions will be offered in each option. Two practical/data handling examinations (15% of total mark).
The practical/data handling exams will correspond to the options chosen by the candidate
Each exam will last for 2.5 hours. It will consist of specimens, photographs and data to identify or comment upon together with brief questions and/or manipulative procedures based on these. The material will be based on practicals, demonstrations, example classes or lectures. A research project report (20% of total mark)
The Examiners require that each candidate submit two copies of a written report of his/her research project to the Department of Pathology Teaching Office no later than 12 noon on Friday, 16 March 2012.
It is desirable for project experimental work to be finished early in the Lent Term. This will allow you sufficient time for writing up the work and enable you to use the Easter Vacation to recuperate and prepare for the examinations. - Viva voce examination
A viva voce examination may be used by the Examiners to help in preparing the final class list if the candidate is on the borderline between classes. Therefore, candidates may be required to attend for a viva voce examination after completion of the practical examination. Candidates should keep the Monday immediately following the practical examination free in case they are called for a viva.

NST Part II BBS Four Paper (Major) Pathology
The examination will consist of:
- Four Theory papers
Each paper will consist of four sections, one drawn from each option. In two of the papers, two 90 minute answers will be required, one answer from each of the two sections corresponding to your options. There will be a choice of three questions in each option. In the other two papers four 45 minute answers will be required, two from each of the two chosen options. Here, a choice of four questions will be offered in each option. - Dissertation Report
This should be prepared according to the specific details given in Faculty Board. It can be carried out in your Minor subject if desired.
Two copies of your dissertation, in its complete form, must be submitted to the Teaching Office by the deadline of 12.30 pm on Friday, 27 April 2012.
Each copy of your dissertation must be accompanied by an A4 Coversheet which must be bound to your dissertation. - A fifth theory paper in your other Minor BBS subject
NST Part II BBS Mechanisms of Disease: From Process to Patient
The examination will consist of:
- Four Theory papers
Each paper will consist of two sections. In two of the papers, two 90 minute answers will be required, one answer from each of the two sections. There will be a choice of three questions in each section. In the other two papers, four 45 minute answers will be required, two from each of two sections. Here, a choice of four questions will be offered in each section. - Dissertation report
This should be prepared according to the specific details given by the Faculty Board. It can be carried out in your Minor subject if desired.
