CRUK: Project Grants (basic biology)

Project grants provide support for a defined piece of work with objectives that are hypothesis driven and can be achieved in the time specified.

Research areas: The Biological Sciences Committee (BSC) considers applications in the following areas:

·       Cancer genetics, genomics and genetic epidemiology

·       Cell and molecular biology of cancer

·       Immunology

·       Tumour biology

This excludes clinical trials and research programmes/projects falling within the remits of the Population Research Committee and the Clinical and Translational Research Committee and its sub-Committees, and research which is primarily focused on drug discovery, imaging, surgery or radiotherapy.

Eligibility:

·       Applications will be accepted from scientists, clinicians or health care workers in UK universities, medical schools, hospitals and some research institutions. All applicants for Project Grant must have at least three years post-doctoral experience or equivalent, or a tenured post.

·       Cancer Research UK Programme Grant holders can apply for Project Grants.

Funding:

·       Funding is provided for up to 36 months.

·       Project grants should not exceed £100,000 per annum.

·       All applicants must confirm the source of their salary (please refer to the scheme web page for more details)

·       Applications for PhD studentships on project grants will not be considered
